About PT PLN Indonesia Power UBP Kamojang
PLN Indonesia Power Generation Business Unit (UBP) Kamojang is one of the important business units under PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of PT PLN (Persero), which focuses on generating electrical energy from geothermal energy sources. UBP Kamojang is located in Bandung Regency, West Java, and is a pioneer in the use of geothermal energy in Indonesia since it first operated in 1982. This unit manages Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) units spread across several locations as follows: PLTP Kamojang, PLTP Darajat in Garut Regency, and PLTP Gunung Salak in Sukabumi Regency. Apart from that, UBP Kamojang also manages the Ulubelu PLTP in Tanggamus Regency, Lampung, and the Lahendong PLTP in Tomohon, North Sulawesi. These two PLTPs also contribute significantly to providing geothermal-based electrical energy in their respective regions and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
UBP Kamojang's use of geothermal energy plays an important role in Indonesia's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase the use of renewable energy. The Kamojang PLTP alone is capable of preventing the release of around 1.2 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent every year, making it an environmentally friendly and sustainable generator. Capacity development and improvement continues to be carried out to support national electricity needs and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
With the existence of these generating units, PT PLN Indonesia Power shows a strong commitment to developing renewable energy and supporting a sustainable energy transition in Indonesia.
